About Us

    Belle Isle Awning Company was founded by William Belluomo in 1931 and is now owned and operated by the 4th generation of the Belluomo family, Blair Belluomo.  William would be very pleased and satisfied to hear that the company is still operated efficiently with Blair's experienced employees to this day.

    In the early 20th Century, Belle Isle was an excellent place for sailors. This is due to the surrounding water of the Detroit River, where many places such as the Detroit Yacht Club and Detroit Boat Club are located. Mr. Belluomo saw this as a great opportunity to exert his skills in the fabric world by making wonderful handcrafted sails for vessels that needed them.  William Belluomo's work was so stupendous customers began to ask if he would assemble tents and awnings for their homes and business as well. As the days passed demands for sails diminished and the requests of awnings started to dominate. Hence the birth of Belle Isle Awning Company.

    The name was decided because of the original building's location, which was on Jefferson Avenue on the corner of Townsend. The building had a spectacular view of Belle Isle Park, which then William Belluomo decided to incorporate the park's name in with his business.

    Over the course of the years Belle Isle Awning had to move three times. The reason for this is because the customer's demands for more awnings became too great. The necessity of a bigger building was obvious to keep up. Now at our current location of 20220 Cornillie off of Little Mack in Roseville, Belle Isle Awning can meet everyone's wants and needs. Whether it be residential, commercial, or retractable.
